Primary and secondary dysmenorrhea

Menstrual pains can range from mild to quite severe. Severe cramps can be so painful they interfere with a woman's regular activities for several days. Period pains of some degree affect more than an estimated 50% of women and, among these, up to 15% would describe their symptoms as severe.

In primary dysmenorrhea, there is no underlying gynecological problem causing the pain. This type of cramping may begin within six months to a year following the beginning of menstruation. In secondary dysmenorrhea, some underlying abnormal condition contributes to the menstrual pain. Secondary dysmenorrhea may develop at any stage.

Please seek medical advice if your pain is anything other than primary period pain.

Relief for primary period pain

EllaEase nerve stimulation may be suitable to support teenage girls and young women who suffer from premenstrual headache, primary dysmenorrhea (period pain or period cramps) and / or joint or muscle pain associated with the menstrual cycle.

Sensory nerve stimulation is a highly effective way of:

  • Releasing beta-endorphin and creating a sense of well-being and relaxation - thus reducing tension and tension related pain and headache

  • Producing maximum pain gating impact - to help reduce the pain of abdominal cramps and back pain

  • Relieving joint and muscle pain

Motor nerve stimulation is a highly effective way of:

  • Regulating excessive uterine muscle contractions

RELIEVE mode - relieve primary period pain & tension headache

RELIEVE is an optimum mix of pain relieving frequencies as it offers both pain gating and beta-endorphin release. Frequencies modulate to achieve this effect. This mode is ideal for relief from primary period pain and tension headaches.

We advise you to use the RELIEVE mode for a minimum of one hour - but it may be used for much longer if your abdominal cramps are persistent. It may be used for several days in succession.

EASE mode - assist with the regulation of uterine muscle contractions

If your body generates higher than average levels of prostaglandins, your uterus may be contracting more strongly than is necessary.

When the muscle contracts for a long period it becomes starved of oxygen and this can cause acute pain. For some women, using the EASE mode on the abdomen may help to regulate the strength of the contractions and reduce excessive pain.

The EASE mode has a short muscle contraction period followed by a much longer muscle relaxation period. It is during the relaxation phase that oxygen flows back into the muscle.
